Chris-
That sure sounds like a fair dose of teambuilding! It's amazing how a simple question breaks the ice - and allows people to share a little bit more about themselves: what they are most proud of, what drives them, and what motivates them. All of which contributes to the effective functioning of the team.

I am a big fan of anything by Stephen Denning. The Leader's Guide to Storytelling: Mastering the Art and Discipline of Business Narrative and the Secret Language of Leadership: How Leaders Inspire Action Through Narrative are two of the best!

I love "Made to Stick." I wish I had written it.

Chip Heath wrote, somewhere -- I'm not sure where -- “It’s not enough for people to intellectually understand that an organization must start moving in a different strategic direction. People need to be motivated.”

Giving them data and information doesn't motivate them. Telling stories does.

"Made to Stick" by Chip and Dan Heath is the best (and most readable) analysis of what makes a story "sticky" (i.e. memorable). I use this in my business, and give it to all my clients.
